OHS-GEMA Distribute Homeland Security Funding To Fayette County 9-1-1 | |
(Atlanta, Ga.) – The Georgia Office of Homeland Security (OHS) and Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), on behalf of Governor Sonny Perdue, reimbursed the Fayette County 9-1-1 Center $148,387.10 for the purchase of radio communications equipment. The funding is part of a grant totaling $655,000 to enhance the county’s communications capabilities.
“This equipment will not only help build our regional response capacity, it also provides a vital resource Fayette County’s first responders can use for incidents on a day-to-day basis,” said OHS-GEMA Director Mike Sherberger.
The primary purpose of the federal homeland security funding is to strengthen the state’s overall capability to respond to acts of terrorism. The funding, administered by GEMA, is part of U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) grant program.
