OHS-GEMA Distribute Homeland Security Funding To City of Tifton Fire Department | |
(Atlanta, GA) – The Georgia Office of Homeland Security (OHS) and Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), on behalf of Governor Sonny Perdue, reimbursed the City of Tifton Fire Department $22,691.90 for communications, detection and personal protective equipment.
“It is critical that emergency personnel have the proper tools and equipment available when they respond to an incident. This equipment enhances the City of Tifton’s existing communications capabilities, while also helping build capacity for homeland security response efforts throughout Georgia,” said OHS-GEMA Director Mike Sherberger.
The primary purpose of the homeland security grant program is to provide first responders with the equipment and training needed to handle weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incidents. The funding, administered by GEMA, is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Domestic Preparedness (ODP) grant program.
