OHS-GEMA Distribute Homeland Security Funding
To Laurens County Law Enforcement Center

(Atlanta, Ga.) – The Georgia Office of Homeland Security (OHS) and Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), on behalf of Governor Sonny Perdue, recently reimbursed the Laurens County Law Enforcement Center $62,717.50 for communications, detection and personal protective equipment.

“This equipment will not only help build our regional response capacity, it also provides a vital resource Laurens County’s first responders can use for incidents on a day-to-day basis,” said OHS and GEMA Director Mike Sherberger.

The primary purpose of the federal homeland security funding is to strengthen the state’s overall capability to respond to acts of terrorism. The funding, administered by GEMA, is part of U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) grant program.

For more information on OHS or GEMA, visit the agencies’ Web sites at www.gahomelandsecurity.com or www.gema.state.ga.us or call 1-800-TRY GEMA.
