Governor's Emergency Management Conference Starts Today | |
Approximately 1,000 participants, representing homeland security and emergency management, public safety, public health, school safety, the volunteer community, the meteorology profession, and the private sector, will hear from experts, and exchange ideas and information on how to handle the various natural and manmade threats to
Governor Sonny Perdue is scheduled to address the conference at noon, Thursday, April 28. Among the featured speakers are Assistant Chief Shawn Kelley of the Arlington, Va. Fire Department, the incident commander who headed the response the Pentagon bombing on 9/11; and Frank Koutnic, Florida Division of Emergency Management, who is coordinating response efforts in that state in the aftermath of the 2004 hurricane season.
Workshops will address a wide range of issues including: critical incidents in schools, the dissemination of emergency information, public-private partnerships for homeland security, community emergency response activities , hurricane planning, critical incident stress management, internet threats, media relations, incident command, disaster recovery, agro-terrorism, and emerging technology. In addition, over 125 vendors and exhibitors will display various types of public safety and emergency equipment.
