OHS-GEMA Distribute Homeland Security Funding
To City of East Point Fire Department

East Point, Ga.) – The Georgia Office of Homeland Security (OHS)—Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), on behalf of Governor Sonny Perdue, recently reimbursed the City of East Point Fire Department $19,510 for a portable 800 MHz radio system. The payment is part of a $185,000 grant to establish mobile radio communication capabilities.

“This equipment will not only help build our regional response capacity in the metro area, it also provides a vital resource East Point first responders can use for incidents on a day-to-day basis,” said OHS and GEMA Director Mike Sherberger.

The primary purpose of the federal homeland security funding is to strengthen the state’s overall capability to respond to acts of terrorism. The funding, administered by GEMA, is part of U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) grant program.
