NEWS RELEASE GEMA Distributes Hazard Mitigation Funds to ATLANTA -- The Georgia Emergency Management Agency on behalf of Governor Sonny Perdue, recently reimbursed Crawford County $10,846 for costs associated with a county-wide mass alert system. This system will provide weather warnings to all of its citizens. The total approved cost for the grant is $12,760 with a federal share of $9,570, a state share of $1,276 and a local share of $1,914. The purpose of the Hazard Mitigation Program is to provide funds to state agencies and local governments for projects that reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from the effects of natural hazards by breaking the repetitive cycle of destruction and reconstruction.
