As the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN, prepares to make their first shipment of remote-handled transuranic waste to WIPP near Carlsbad, NM, the U.S. Departemnt of Energy-Carlsbad Field Office is conducting a tour along the I-59 route displaying the TRUCPACT-II and RH-72-B containers that will be used for the shipment.

How/Why
This tour will give individuals and first responders the opportunity to see the actual shipping package and become familiar with what will be shipped and the transportation requirements. Individuals will have an opportunity to speak with transport drivers and take a tour of the vehicle. Additionally, local EMA/first responders, GEMA/state public safety agency personnel and WIPP personnel will be on-site to answer question, provide facts sheets and explain the shipping procedures.
