NEWS RELEASE OHS-GEMA Distributes Hazard Mitigation Funds to Wayne County (Atlanta, GA) -- The Office of Homeland Security-Georgia Emergency Management Agency (OHS-GEMA), on behalf of Governor Sonny Perdue, recently reimbursed Wayne County $234,220.06 for improvements to the Wayne County-City of Jesup's joint Emergency 9-1-1 and Emergency Operations Center facility. Upon completion, the facility will meet the FEMA 361 standard for Design and Construction of Community Shelters. "These facility improvements will further assist Wayne County emergency management personnel during an incident," said GEMA Director Charley English. The purpose of OHS-GEMA's Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program is to provide funds to state agencies and local governments for projects that reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from the effects of natural hazards by breaking the repetitive cycle of destruction and reconstruction.
